Calhoun Police Chief Tony Pyle has released information on the overnight shooting that happened close to Applebee’s: “Last night at approximately 11:30 p.m., our Special Operations Unit, in coordination with the DEA, attempted a traffic stop on a suspect vehicle on Outlet Center Drive. During the attempted stop, the vehicle accelerated directly toward a federal agent in what appeared to be an intentional attempt to strike him head-on. The agent responded by discharging his firearm, striking both a male and female occupant in the vehicle.

The FBI has since resumed responsibility for the investigation, and as such, we will not be releasing further details at this time. We can confirm that the stop was initiated by one of our marked units, and from our agency’s perspective, all actions taken were within policy. All of our personnel are safe, and no local officers were injured during the incident.”

Pyle confirmed that the GBI is assisting the FBI with the investigation.
