    Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Take extra precautions when outside. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing. Try to limit strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.

Judy Kay Bates, 79, of Plainville, Georgia, passed away Tuesday, April 29, 2025. She was born in Calhoun County, Alabama, on April 12, 1946, to the late Minnie Louise Estes Jones. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Sabrina Bates Haywood; brother, Talmedge Fritts.

She is survived by her husband and the love of her life of 59 years, Emmett Bates; son, Michael Bates; daughter, Mickie Johnson; sister, Mickie (Alan) Dunn; grandchildren, Rustin (Katherine) Haywood, Cody Kilgore, Dustin (Brittany) Bates, Autumn (Chase) Haywood, Jacob Murphy, Amy Jordan, Amber Rivera, Ethan (Bree) Johnson, Kayla Johnson, Lance (Kristen) Broyles; numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews also survive.

Judy could be mean as a snake, liked to be the boss, and loved her family dearly. She enjoyed riding motorcycles with her husband. She loved to shop and go antiquing. When she was able, she enjoyed sewing and making clothes. She was a member of Friendship Baptist Church in Plainville.

To honor her wishes, her body was cremated and a private family service will be held at a later date.
