Gordon County Schools proudly hosted the 29th Annual Bus Rodeo Friday, an event that celebrates the skill and precision of our school bus drivers. This year’s rodeo once again brought together drivers from across the district to compete in a variety of challenging events designed to test their driving skills, safety knowledge, and ability to navigate behind the wheel.

Thanks to the incredible support of our community and local businesses, over $21,500 in prizes were donated to recognize and reward our drivers for the vital role they play in our school system. These sponsorships helped make the day both competitive and celebratory, highlighting the tremendous value our transportation team brings to students and families every day. We would also like to thank everyone who came to judge and support this event.

Gordon County Schools Board of Education Vice Chairperson Bobby Hall attended the event to express appreciation to all members of the transportation department, offering thanks on behalf of the board for their hard work, dedication, and the strong relationships they build with students.

Transportation Director Tim Watkins concluded the event by announcing the winners of this year’s rodeo:
1st Place – Janice Nix, Red Bud Elementary Bus #6
2nd Place – Karen Wilson, Fairmount Elementary Bus #8
3rd Place – Jenny Elmore, Sonoraville Elementary Bus #4

Congratulations to these top performers and to every driver who participated. We are grateful for the professionalism, care, and skill our transportation staff demonstrate each day to safely transport students to and from school.
