A cold front will push a line of strong to severe thunderstorms through North Georgia tonight. The Storm Prediction Center has placed much of northwestern Georgia under an Enhanced Risk (level 3 of 5) for severe weather tonight. Damaging wind gusts of 50-70 mph will be the main threat, particularly in far northwest Georgia. A few tornadoes and some large hail will also be possible.

Strong to severe thunderstorms should begin to move into northwestern Georgia after sunset this evening and continue southeastward into Metro Atlanta by midnight. Storms should begin to diminish after midnight and by sunrise only scattered showers and a few thunderstorms should remain. Drier and cooler weather will settle in tomorrow through the weekend.

With the threat of severe weather overnight, make sure you have multiple ways of receiving severe weather warnings while asleep. Continue to monitor forecast updates from your local National Weather Service office and reliable media outlets this afternoon and tonight.
