Calhoun, Gordon County Approve Budgets; Water and Sewer Rates Set to Increase

CALHOUN, GA — Both the City of Calhoun and Gordon County have officially approved their budgets for the upcoming fiscal year, setting the stage for several notable changes that will impact residents and government agencies alike.

City residents will see a 4.5% increase in both water and sewer service rates. The rate hike is part of the city’s efforts to keep pace with rising operational costs and infrastructure needs.

On the county side, many government agencies experienced cuts to their operating budgets. Officials cited ongoing efforts to manage resources more efficiently amid economic pressures.

In other developments, county leaders formalized the appointments of agency heads, acting on guidance received from Floyd County officials. Among the appointments, Rusty Hogan was named the new Director of Public Works.

A new initiative may also soon bring expanded mental health care services to the local justice system. County leaders are exploring a program aimed at providing mental health support to inmates sentenced to jail time but left waiting for scarce bed space in state-run mental hospitals.

Officials say the combination of fiscal adjustments and service changes reflects a proactive approach to governance, focused on both economic stewardship and community well-being.
