June 19, 2025 — A widely used children’s cough syrup has been recalled across the United States after federal health officials discovered bacterial contamination that could pose potential health risks.
Medtech Products Inc., the manufacturer of Little Remedies® Honey Cough Syrup, announced a voluntary nationwide recall on Wednesday, following a warning issued by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The recall was triggered after the product tested positive for Bacillus cereus, a bacterium known to cause foodborne illnesses and compromise product stability.
The recall affects syrup distributed and sold both online and in retail stores between December 14, 2022, and June 4, 2025. The syrup comes in 4-fluid ounce amber bottles packaged inside a carton, with lot codes visible on both the bottle and the bottom of the outer packaging.
The following lot numbers are included in the recall:
Lot #0039 – Expires 11/2025
Lot #0545 – Expires 01/2026
Lot #0640 – Expires 02/2026
Lot #0450 – Expires 05/2026
Lot #1198 – Expires 12/2026
While no serious health incidents have been reported to date, the FDA is urging caution. Bacillus cereus can cause symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, abdominal cramps, and diarrhea, depending on the strain and level of exposure.
“Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term illness, exposure to high levels of foodborne B. cereus can cause death,” the FDA warned in its advisory.
Consumers are advised to stop using the product immediately and consult a healthcare provider if they experience any symptoms after use.
