June 19, 2025 — Honda is recalling more than 259,000 vehicles across the United States following the discovery of a manufacturing defect that could compromise braking performance and increase the risk of a crash, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
The recall covers specific models of both Honda and Acura vehicles, including:
2021–2025 Acura TLX
2023–2025 Acura MDX
2023–2025 Honda Pilot
Federal safety officials say the issue involves a brake pedal pivot pin that may not have been properly staked during production. This flaw can cause the brake pedal to shift laterally, resulting in reduced braking performance. In some cases, affected vehicles may trigger a brake system warning light or present drivers with an “abnormal pedal feeling.”
“If the driver is unable to safely slow or stop the vehicle, the risk of a crash or injury increases,” the NHTSA report stated.
Honda will begin notifying affected vehicle owners by mail. Drivers will be asked to schedule a visit with an authorized Honda or Acura dealership, where technicians will inspect and, if needed, replace the faulty brake components at no cost. Customers who have already paid for related repairs may be eligible for reimbursement.
The defect has been traced back to a now-shuttered U.S. manufacturing plant, where a lack of proper training during a production transition led to skipped steps in the brake pedal assembly process. Honda has since relocated production to a facility in Mexico that uses camera-based sensors to ensure correct brake pin installation.
