Heat Advisory Issued for Gordon County Through Wednesday Evening

SHARE NOW

The National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory for Gordon County, in effect from 1 p.m. Tuesday, June 24, through 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 25.

During this period, heat index values — a measure of how hot it feels when humidity is factored in with the actual air temperature — are expected to reach up to 107 degrees. The advisory also affects portions of central, east central, north central, northeast, northwest, southeast, and west central Georgia.

Officials warn that the combination of high temperatures and humidity could lead to heat-related illnesses, especially for vulnerable individuals such as children, the elderly, and those working outdoors.

Adding to the danger, overnight temperatures on Tuesday are expected to remain high, offering little relief. Heat index values are forecasted to climb rapidly again on Wednesday.

Public health and emergency management agencies recommend the following precautions:

  • Drink plenty of water throughout the day

  • Remain in air-conditioned spaces as much as possible

  • Avoid outdoor activity during the hottest parts of the day

  • Check on elderly neighbors and relatives

  • Ensure pets have adequate shade and water

Local officials also urge schools, camps, and athletic programs to adjust or reschedule outdoor activities during peak heat hours.
