Residents across north and central Georgia should prepare for dangerously high heat indices, which are expected to climb above 100 degrees beginning this weekend and continuing into early next week.

The National Weather Service warns that Heat Advisories are increasingly likely for Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday as oppressive heat and humidity build across the region.

Even in the absence of an official advisory, residents are urged to take precautions to avoid heat-related illness:

Limit time outdoors, especially during the afternoon hours

Stay hydrated and avoid strenuous activity

Check on vulnerable family members, neighbors, and pets

Never leave children or animals unattended in vehicles

Public health officials remind residents that heat illness can escalate quickly, particularly for young children, the elderly, and individuals with underlying health conditions.
