The Gordon County Board of Commissioners has approved a rezoning request that could pave the way for a new convenience store and gas station in Sugar Valley.
Commissioners voted unanimously, 5-0, to rezone just over an acre at 2997 Sugar Valley Road from Agricultural (A-1) to General Commercial (C-G). The site sits just north of the existing Dollar General.
Plans presented with the request indicate the property could be developed into a convenience store with fuel pumps.
During the public hearing, several Sugar Valley residents voiced concerns, citing increased traffic, the possibility of alcohol sales, the addition of gaming machines, and worries that the community is growing too quickly, threatening its small-town character.
