The Gordon County Sheriff’s Office (GCSO) has issued an urgent warning to the public after receiving reports of a scam targeting individuals with family members who have recently been arrested.

According to GCSO officials, victims have received phone calls from individuals falsely claiming to be jail staff members. The scammers reportedly offer to arrange bail or bond payments through electronic transfer platforms such as Venmo or Zelle. In some cases, the caller has even used the name of an actual jail employee, likely obtained from public online sources, to appear more convincing.

Authorities emphasize that these calls are not legitimate.

“Bail and bond payments are never solicited or accepted by any electronic means,” the Sheriff’s Office stated. “If you receive such a call, do not send money and contact our office immediately.”

The GCSO Detectives Division is actively investigating the matter and urges residents to remain cautious, especially when dealing with anyone requesting money over the phone.
