Traffic Accident Closes Oothcalooga Street Monday Night
Authorities confirm a Monday night crash on Oothcalooga Street near the Dollar Store. An elderly person suffered a head laceration and was airlifted by Life Force for treatment. Jeffrey M. Hood Appointed to CCS Board of Education
Calhoun City Schools has appointed local attorney Jeffrey M. Hood to the vacant Post 4 seat. A long-time resident and parent of three Calhoun students, Hood says his decision to serve is rooted in his admiration for the district’s dedication and excellence. He and his wife, Heather, have three sons — Reece, Ryan (Class of 2022), and Ryder, a current CHS junior.
GDA Lifts HPAI Control Area in Gordon County
The Georgia Department of Agriculture has lifted the Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI) Control Area in Gordon County after completing all required testing with no new detections.
More than 10,600 birds were tested, all returning negative results. The 10-kilometer zone around the affected farm is now cleared, and normal operations may resume. Commissioner Tyler Harper called it a major step forward but emphasized continued vigilance to protect Georgia’s poultry industry.
