Girl Scouts to Close Camp Misty Mountain After 54 Years

SHARE NOW

The Girl Scouts of Greater Atlanta announced today that Camp Misty Mountain in Armuchee will close following a multi-year evaluation of the 800-acre property. A task force made up of board members, volunteers, staff, and current members recommended the closure, citing sharply rising repair and maintenance costs.

According to the council, shutting down the 54-year-old resident camp will allow resources to be redirected to two remaining year-round outdoor facilities: Camp Timber Ridge in Mableton and Camp Meriwether in Luthersville. Investments in those camps are expected to help them better serve the needs of current and future Girl Scouts.

Camp Misty Mountain and nearby Lake Marvin will stay open for activities through early spring. Troops with reservations for summer 2026 are being notified and offered alternate accommodations at Camp Timber Ridge or Camp Meriwether.
