The GEM Theatre will be a festive highlight during Downtown Calhoun’s Merry & Bright Weekend on Saturday, November 22, welcoming visitors from 6–8 p.m. for a special holiday experience.
Guests can step inside the historic theatre from 6–7 p.m. to enjoy classic short reels from The GEM’s early years, including “Pluto’s Christmas Tree” (1952) and “On Ice” (1935). Attendees are welcome to stop in anytime during the event.
The day kicks off earlier with FREE GEM Theatre tours from 4–6 p.m. and special showings of the beloved holiday movie “The Year Without a Santa Claus” (1974) at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m., sponsored by AdventHealth Gordon.
In the spirit of giving, The GEM is collecting new socks and toboggan hats for a community donation drive. Visitors who donate during the film screenings will receive FREE popcorn as a thank-you. Donations can also be dropped off at several locations throughout downtown Calhoun, including Calhoun Aquatic Center, Calhoun Coffee, Cassie’s on Wall Street, Cheyenne’s Boutique, Gift of Season, Pete’s Music City, Pickleball 706, Tot Roost & Teens, and Wolves Den Barbell Club.
After visiting The GEM, attendees can enjoy all the Merry & Bright festivities hosted by the Calhoun Downtown Development Authority and Gordon County Government, featuring sleigh rides, photos with Santa & Mrs. Claus (and the Grinch!), snow at City Park, and more.
All activities are free and open to the public. Celebrate the season while experiencing a treasured piece of Calhoun history at The GEM Theatre.
