Holiday Travel Rush Begins: Georgia Suspends Lane Closures for Thanksgiving Week

SHARE NOW

Georgia drivers can expect a smoother ride on the roads this Thanksgiving holiday, as the state has suspended lane closures from Nov. 26 through Nov. 30 to help ease heavy travel congestion.

Transportation officials say traffic is expected to peak on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons as travelers hit the road for the holiday. A second surge is anticipated Sunday evening as families return home.

Motorists are urged to stay alert, buckle up, and plan ahead using 511GA’s real-time traffic updates. Drivers should also remember Georgia’s Move Over Law, which requires motorists to shift lanes or slow down when approaching emergency responders on the roadside.

Safe travels, Georgia — and happy holiday season!
