Gordon County Enacts Moratorium on Anaerobic Digestion Facilities
At their Dec. 2 meeting, the Gordon County Board of Commissioners approved a six-month moratorium on permitting and zoning for anaerobic digestion facilities, similar to the proposed Vanguard Renewables Bioenergy Process Facility in Murray County. Officials cited concerns over odor, truck traffic, wastewater, environmental and public health impacts, and land-use compatibility. The pause will give the county time to review potential impacts and update local regulations before accepting new applications.

Emergency Blood Delivered Following Deadly Dalton Crash
Blood Assurance delivered emergency O-positive blood units to Erlanger Medical Center after a fatal I-75 crash in Dalton that claimed three lives. Deputies had attempted to stop the wrong-way driver, who investigators believe was impaired. While the hospital’s immediate needs were met, the rapid response strained O-positive supplies. Blood Assurance is now urging donors to give as soon as possible to help replenish inventory.

Gem Theatre Hosts Christmas Movie Weekend
The Gem Theatre is celebrating the holiday season with a weekend of Christmas movies, starting with A Christmas Story on Friday at 7 p.m., followed by The Holiday on Saturday at 7 p.m., and ending with Miracle on 34th Street on Sunday at 3 p.m. Attendees who bring four canned goods for the VAC will receive free popcorn, supporting local community needs.
