A Gordon County woman has died from injuries sustained in a residential fire that occurred late last month, according to Gordon County Fire Rescue.
Crews were called to a home at 513 Linda Lane on November 26, 2025, where they found an adult female suffering from severe burn injuries and smoke inhalation. She was transported by AdventHealth Gordon to a metro-area burn center for specialized treatment. Despite days of medical intervention, officials say she later succumbed to her injuries.
Following a full investigation, Gordon County Fire Investigators have ruled the blaze accidental. The cause was determined to be the mishandling of an open-flamed lighter, officials said. The case is now closed.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the family during this difficult time,” the department said in a statement, asking the community to keep the family in their hearts as they navigate their loss.
Fire officials also urged residents to review home fire-safety practices in light of the tragedy. Gordon County Fire Rescue recommends:
Making sure all family members understand the dangers of open flames and ignition sources
Installing and regularly testing working smoke alarms
Creating and practicing a home evacuation plan to ensure everyone knows how to exit safely in an emergency
The department emphasized its continued commitment to protecting life and property and providing community fire-safety education to help prevent future tragedies.
