The Gordon County Chamber of Commerce Young Professionals Committee has been named the regional winner of the Annual Northwest Georgia Share Your Christmas Food Drive Competition.

The friendly competition challenged Young Professionals committees across Northwest Georgia to collect food for local families facing food insecurity. Gordon County’s committee secured first place after collecting more than 3,000 pounds of food, an amount equivalent to 2,527 meals.

The effort was led by committee co-chairs Steven Duncan of Starr-Mathews Agency and Steven Proper of Shaw Industries Group, who coordinated volunteers, collection sites, and outreach efforts throughout Gordon County.

Committee member Shyloh Chavez of Anderson Heating, Air and Insulation also played a significant role in the campaign, providing leadership and hands-on support that helped boost participation and community awareness.

Collection boxes were placed at numerous local businesses and government offices, including Anderson Heating, Air and Insulation, Builtwell Bank, DiPrima’s Shoes, Gordon County Government, the Gordon County Tax Assessor’s Office, Harris Arts Center, Op5, Starr-Mathews Agency, and the Gordon County Chamber of Commerce.

The food drive ran from October 29 through December 12. On the final day, Chamber President Kathy B. Johnson joined committee members to deliver the donated items to the Pierce Distribution Center in Dalton.
