As holiday celebrations ramp up across Georgia, AAA is once again offering its life-saving Tow to Go program to help keep impaired drivers off the roads during one of the most dangerous travel periods of the year.

The free service will be available from 6 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 24, 2025, through 6 a.m. Friday, Jan. 2, 2026, providing a confidential ride and tow for impaired drivers and their vehicles to a safe location within a 10-mile radius. The program is open to both AAA members and non-members and is intended as a last-resort option when other transportation plans fall through.

“The holidays are meant for joy, not tragedy caused by impaired driving,” said Montrae Waiters, spokeswoman for AAA – The Auto Club Group. “We urge Georgians to plan ahead by choosing a designated driver, arranging a rideshare, or using public transportation. And if those plans fall through, AAA’s Tow to Go is here as an extra safety net—our gift to the community to help ensure everyone gets home safely.”

In Georgia, law enforcement agencies traditionally see an increase in impaired driving incidents during Christmas and New Year’s celebrations. AAA officials say programs like Tow to Go play a critical role in reducing preventable crashes and saving lives.

Alcohol-impaired driving is involved in nearly one-third of all traffic fatalities nationwide. In 2023 alone, more than 12,000 people were killed in alcohol-related crashes—an average of one death every 42 minutes. AAA’s ongoing “Crashes Hit Different” campaign emphasizes that behind every statistic is a real person whose life, and the lives of their loved ones, are permanently changed.

To use Tow to Go, impaired drivers or their companions can call (855) 2-TOW-2-GO during the service window. The program cannot be scheduled in advance and should only be used when no other safe transportation options are available.

AAA officials stress that planning ahead remains the best defense against impaired driving, but for Georgians who find themselves without a safe way home, Tow to Go offers an important final layer of protection during the holiday season.
