Gordon County Fire Rescue responded to a residential structure fire Saturday morning in the Plainville community that resulted in two fatalities.
Fire crews were dispatched at approximately 8:55 a.m. on January 17, 2026. Upon arrival, firefighters found the residence heavily involved in fire. A family member on scene informed responders that an adult male and an adult female were believed to be inside the home at the time the fire started.
Fire suppression efforts began immediately, and once the blaze was brought under control, two deceased individuals were located inside the structure. The identities of the victims have not yet been released, pending positive identification and notification of next of kin.
The incident remains under active investigation. Gordon County Fire Rescue Fire Investigators are working in coordination with the Georgia State Fire Marshal’s Office, the Gordon County Coroner’s Office, and the Gordon County Sheriff’s Office to determine the origin and cause of the fire.
Preliminary information suggests the fire may have been caused by the use of a space heater. Officials emphasized that this information is preliminary and subject to confirmation as the investigation continues.
