AdventHealth Gordon has recognized two of its caregivers with one of nursing’s highest honors. Ian Sorrow, RN, and Mellissa Pumphrey, RN, were named DAISY Award recipients for the fourth quarter of 2025 for their extraordinary compassion and commitment to patient-centered care.
Sorrow and Pumphrey were honored for the exceptional kindness they showed to a patient battling terminal lung cancer. According to hospital officials, the two nurses went above and beyond their regular duties — even coming in on a day off — to help fulfill the patient’s final wish of seeing his cherished vintage truck one last time before entering hospice care.
Their thoughtful actions provided a powerful moment of peace, dignity, and comfort for the patient and his family during an emotionally difficult time.
The DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses is an international recognition program that celebrates nurses who demonstrate excellence through clinical skill, compassionate care, and dedication to patients and their families. Recipients are nominated by patients, families, and colleagues who witness firsthand the meaningful difference nurses make every day.
AdventHealth Gordon leaders praised Sorrow and Pumphrey for exemplifying the organization’s values of uncommon compassion and kindness, noting that their actions reflect the very heart of nursing.
