The City Council will hold both a work session and its regular monthly meeting on Monday, February 9, 2026, with several zoning matters, alcohol license hearings, and downtown event requests on the agenda.
The work session is scheduled for 12:00 noon at 700 West Line Street in the Conference Room. The regular City Council meeting will follow later that evening at 7:00 p.m. at 109 South King Street in the Depot Community Room.
During council comments, members will provide updates from their respective departments and boards:

Councilmember Palazzolo will report on Police, Municipal Court, Fire, Safety, and the Library.

Councilmember Edwards will cover Electric, Telecommunications, Building Inspections, and the Zoning Advisory Board.

Councilmember Potts will address Water and Sewer Operations, Water and Sewer Construction, the Revolving Loan Program, and the Northwest Georgia Regional Commission.

Councilmember Moyer will report on Public Works, Recreation, the Downtown Development Authority (DDA), the Mainstreet Program, and Historic Preservation.
Zoning Hearings
Council will conduct a public hearing regarding an annexation and zoning request for 0.172 acres located at 1005 Court Street (Parcel 002-039). The request, submitted by Sulma Betancourt, seeks annexation and rezoning from County R-3 to R1-B. The Zoning Advisory Board reviewed the request on February 5, with the public hearing scheduled for February 9.
Public comments will be accepted, with each side allowed up to ten minutes. Speakers must provide their name and address, and required financial disclosure statements must have been filed in advance.
Alcohol License Hearings
Council will also hear two alcohol-related applications:

A beer and wine package application for 235 West Line Street, Suite 2, submitted by Dews Pond Ventures LLC, doing business as Amoco. Noor B. Ali is listed as the owner and proposed store manager.

A beer pouring application for El Cubano Restaurant, located at 220 South Wall Street, submitted by owner and proposed manager Richard Cardeno.
New Business
Items under new business include:

Submission of the FY 2025 audit.

Submission of first quarter financial statements.

An alcohol manager change request for Walgreens, located at 910 South Wall Street, naming Megen Ridgway as the proposed new manager.

A request from the Downtown Development Authority for multiple street closures related to the 2026 BBQ & Boogie Festival, scheduled for April 24–25.

A Temporary Outdoor Alcohol Special Event Permit request for Black Sheep Events, in association with the BBQ & Boogie Festival, allowing alcohol sales during designated event hours.
