Hit-and-Run Arrest Made After Hwy. 41 Crash
One person has been arrested following a hit-and-run crash Friday night on Hwy. 41 North near David Lake Road, according to the Georgia State Patrol.
Troopers say the crash occurred around 7 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 6, when a 2002 Acura TL traveling northbound in the continuous turn lane crossed into southbound traffic and struck a 2013 Kia Forte head-on. After the collision, the driver of the Acura attempted to flee the scene, striking a tree and a nearby home before running away on foot.
Deputies with the Gordon County Sheriff’s Office later located and arrested the driver, identified as Maurice McFarlin, 46, of Tallapoosa. He faces multiple charges, including DUI, hit-and-run, driving on a suspended license, and failure to render aid, among others. McFarlin also had an outstanding warrant and remains in the Gordon County Jail. The driver of the Kia was transported to Hamilton Medical Center for treatment.
City Council Meetings Set for Monday
The City Council will hold both a work session and its regular monthly meeting on Monday, Feb. 9, 2026. Several zoning matters, alcohol license hearings, and downtown event requests are expected to be discussed.
The work session will take place at 12:00 noon at 700 West Line Street in the Conference Room. The regular City Council meeting is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at 109 South King Street in the Depot Community Room.
