Suspicious Device Found at Buck Boulevard Home; One Arrested

Deputies responded to a home on Buck Boulevard around noon Tuesday after discovering a suspicious device during a search of a State probationer’s residence.

The Floyd County Ordinance Disposal Team removed the device using a remotely operated robot. Jacob Austin McAfee, 34, of 879 Buck Boulevard, was arrested at the scene.

McAfee is expected to face charges related to hazardous incendiary devices and firearms offenses. Detectives are executing search warrants and interviewing witnesses, and officials say additional arrests are possible.

Buck Boulevard was closed to through traffic for several hours as deputies secured the area. Sheriff Mitch Ralston thanked the public for their patience and encouraged anyone with information to contact local law enforcement.


Quiznos Coming to Calhoun

Quiznos is officially headed to Calhoun, city officials confirmed during Monday’s City Council work session.

The nationwide sub chain will open at 1503 Red Bud Road, just off I-75 at Exit 315, in the same building as a gas station and Marco’s Pizza.

Building and plumbing permits were issued in December 2025, and construction plans have been approved. The 1,880-square-foot location will be takeaway-only, with a service counter and no fixed seating.

An opening date has not yet been announced.
