81-Year-Old Calhoun Woman Dies from Crash Injuries
The Gordon County Coroner’s Office has confirmed that Jeanne Hobgood, 81, of Calhoun, has died from injuries sustained in a February 12 automobile accident.
Coroner Nick Blalock said Hobgood succumbed to her injuries following the crash. The Coroner’s Office continues to assist the Calhoun Police Department as the investigation remains ongoing and is also supporting the family during this difficult time.
Former Commissioner Becky Hood, Husband Enter Guilty Pleas
Former Gordon County Commissioner Becky Hood and her husband, Scott Hood, have entered guilty pleas to reduced charges stemming from allegations made by two of their children more than five years ago.

Scott Hood pleaded guilty to Sexual Battery of a Child Under 16, reduced from child molestation. He was sentenced to five years probation, must register as a sex offender, and may attend his teenage child’s school events only with another adult present.

Becky Hood pleaded guilty to Misdemeanor Reckless Conduct, reduced from first-degree cruelty to children. She received one year probation, a $1,000 fine, and must complete parenting and anger management classes.
Judge Ralph Van Pelt Jr., assigned from another circuit due to Becky Hood’s former elected position, presided over the case. The plea agreements follow recent court motions allowing the state to present additional evidence.
Career Criminal Arrested After Plainville Home Attack
A 65-year-old man with a lengthy criminal record is in custody following an alleged assault at a Plainville home Tuesday morning.
Deputies responded around 9:30 a.m. after a resident reported that a man armed with scissors attacked her inside her home. The victim, assisted by another woman, was able to fend off the suspect before he fled.
Authorities identified the suspect as Dwight S. Hunter, 65, who was later located near Adairsville and arrested with assistance from the Bartow County Sheriff’s Office.
Hunter faces charges including:

False Imprisonment

Battery/Elder Abuse

Three counts of Terroristic Threats

Probation Violation
Officials said Hunter has a criminal history dating back to the 1970s and was on probation at the time of his arrest for prior convictions including Aggravated Assault and Kidnapping.
Sheriff Mitch Ralston thanked Bartow County authorities for their assistance.
