A Tuesday morning vehicle versus pedestrian incident that began near Highway 41 North and ended in a South Wall Street parking lot has resulted in the arrest of a Calhoun woman on felony charges.
According to the Calhoun Police Department, officers were initially dispatched to the area of Highway 41 North and Mauldin Road in reference to a vehicle striking a pedestrian. While en route, officers were informed that the driver of the vehicle was reportedly attempting to get the injured male into the car. A witness told authorities the man entered the vehicle, which then traveled south on Highway 41.
Officers located the vehicle at the intersection of South Wall Street and Peter Street and conducted a traffic stop. One officer made contact with the male passenger, identified as the victim, while another officer spoke with the driver, identified as Ashia Odom.
Police reported that Odom’s shirt was covered in blood. When questioned, she told officers she and the victim had been at Pine Ridge Apartments and became involved in an argument over money. According to the report, her account was described as vague and inconsistent. Odom later stated she accidentally backed into the victim while stopped at a stop sign on Woodland Circle.
Officers observed the male victim covered in blood with what appeared to be a severe leg injury consistent with a possible broken bone, along with visible injuries to his mouth and head. When asked what happened, the victim initially stated that he “fell.” After being advised that his injuries did not appear consistent with a fall, the victim maintained that he was “clumsy and fell walking” and declined to provide further details.
Odom was taken into custody at the scene and transported to the Gordon County Jail, where she remains. The victim was transported to AdventHealth Gordon for treatment of his injuries.
Authorities have obtained warrants charging Odom with Aggravated Assault and Aggravated Battery. The incident remains under investigation.
