Fire Prompts Evacuation at Historic Floyd County Courthouse
ROME, GA — A fire at the Historic Floyd County Courthouse prompted an evacuation Monday afternoon.
Officials say the fire was discovered around 2:20 p.m., leading to the immediate evacuation of the building. According to Floyd County Manager Jamie McCord, all employees inside were safely evacuated.
The Rome-Floyd County Fire Department responded to the scene and continues working to contain the fire.
Authorities have blocked roads in the downtown area, and police are evacuating portions of Broad Street as a precaution.
Officials say the courthouse was undergoing renovations at the time of the incident.
At this time, the cause of the fire remains unknown and is under investigation.
