Spring Break & Road Alerts
Spring Break is in full swing for both Gordon County and Calhoun City Schools through Friday, April 10. On the roads, remember that McDaniel Station Road remains closed to heavy truck traffic today and tomorrow for essential maintenance.
Fuel Prices & The “Amazon Surcharge”
We are seeing upward pressure on gas prices, with local Calhoun averages between $3.60 and $3.70 for regular unleaded. This is driving costs up elsewhere: Amazon’s new 3.5% fuel and inflation surcharge for sellers begins April 17, following similar moves by UPS and FedEx. Expect these costs to impact your online shopping totals soon.
Pollen Alert: High Count Today
If you’re feeling the sneeze, it’s not just you. The pollen count for Gordon County is High today. The primary culprits are Oak, Pine, and Maple. While the yellow pine dust is what you see on your windshield, it’s the invisible oak pollen that is likely causing the most irritation for local allergy sufferers.
Money-Saving Energy Rebates
Finally, a tip for your home budget. Georgia has officially launched two major energy programs: HEAR and HER.
The HEAR program offers up to $14,000 in point-of-sale rebates for low-to-moderate income households switching to electric appliances—including up to $8,000 for heat pumps.
The HER program is open to all income levels and provides rebates based on how much energy you save through home improvements like insulation.
