Whitfield County authorities are investigating a domestic-related shooting that occurred Wednesday night on Boyd Road.
According to a statement from the Whitfield County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched to a residence off Beaverdale Road at approximately 8:50 p.m. on April 15, 2026, following a 911 call reporting a shooting.
Officials say the victim, identified as Jeffery Perkins, called 911 and reported that he had been shot multiple times by his wife, Rita Perkins.
When deputies arrived on the scene, they located Mr. Perkins at the residence suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Emergency responders transported him by air to Erlanger for treatment. Authorities say he is currently listed in stable condition.
Rita Perkins was taken into custody at the scene and has been charged with aggravated assault under O.C.G.A. and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.
The investigation remains ongoing, and no additional details have been released at this time.
