The Calhoun Recreation Department has announced that its public pool will not open for the Summer 2026 season, leaving residents to seek alternative options to beat the heat.

City officials acknowledged the closure may come as a disappointment to families who typically rely on the facility during the warmer months. However, they are encouraging residents to take advantage of several nearby pools, splash pads, and water parks located within a short drive of Calhoun.

Among the closest options is the Gordon County Parks and Recreation splash pad on Fairmount Highway, which offers free admission and is expected to open in late May. Additional nearby facilities include pools and splash pads operated by Dalton Parks and Recreation, Cartersville Parks and Recreation, and Lafayette Parks and Recreation, with most locations opening around May 23 and offering affordable daily admission.

Other regional options include the Northside Swim Center in Rome, operated by Floyd County, and a splash pad in Murray County, both providing additional opportunities for summer recreation. Bartow County is also planning to open a water park later in the season.

The city says it compiled a list of these alternative locations, including hours of operation and pricing, to help residents plan summer activities despite the local pool closure.

Officials encourage everyone to stay safe, stay cool, and make the most of the available recreational options throughout the region this summer.
