Graduating seniors at Calhoun High School received a memorable surprise Wednesday morning as Dale Murphy visited the school to present scholarships through the Dale Murphy Foundation Scholarship program.

Murphy, a longtime star for the Atlanta Braves and former National League MVP, honored seniors Daniela Sanchez and Kirk Wallin during a special presentation at the school.

According to Calhoun City Schools, the scholarships recognize students who demonstrate leadership, compassion, service, and a positive impact within their community.

School officials said the presentation centered on a spirit of encouragement and service, values Murphy has long promoted both during and after his baseball career. Sanchez and Wallin were recognized for embodying those same qualities through their involvement and influence in the Calhoun community.

Murphy spent time speaking with students and school leaders during the visit, celebrating the accomplishments of the graduating seniors as they prepare for the next chapter of their lives.

The Dale Murphy Foundation Scholarship program supports students who reflect strong character and a commitment to serving others, while encouraging young people to make a meaningful difference in their schools and communities.
