Gordon County Schools will once again provide free meals to children across the community this summer through its 2026 Summer Feeding Program.
The program runs from June 1 through July 23 and will offer meals Monday through Thursday from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. for all children ages 0-18. Thursdays will include additional meals for Friday, Saturday, and Sunday to help families through the weekend.
Families may pick up meals at two central locations: Tolbert Elementary School and Sonoraville High School.
In addition to on-site pickup, Gordon County Schools will operate mobile delivery teams using school buses and white vans to distribute meals throughout neighborhoods and communities across the county. Residents are encouraged to listen for honking horns and watch for signs identifying official Summer Feeding Program vehicles.
Delivery sites include areas throughout Resaca, Plainville, Calhoun, Fairmount, Ranger, Sonoraville, and several local subdivisions and apartment communities. Among the listed stops are the Resaca Recreation Department, Plainville Recreation Department, Willow Grove Subdivision, Chelsea Park Clubhouse, Walnut Hill Subdivision, Heritage Crossing, and many others.
Program organizers say the goal is to ensure children continue to have access to nutritious meals while school is out for the summer.
The program will be closed June 29 through July 3 in observance of the July 4 holiday week.
