BREAKING COMMUTE & TRAFFIC UPDATE
”We start with a quick look at your morning drive… If your commute takes you through Highway 53 at the South Calhoun bypass, emergency responders have successfully cleared out an earlier traffic accident. All lanes are completely open, but you can expect a few lingering delays through that intersection as the leftover morning backup finishes thinning out. Give yourself just an extra minute or two, and drive carefully.”
LOCAL ARREST
”Turning to local law enforcement bookings… Seventy-one-year-old Liza Blevins Meltzer of Rome, Georgia, was booked into the Gordon County Jail yesterday afternoon. Meltzer was arrested by the Calhoun Police Department and faces a charge of Theft by Shoplifting.”
ADVENTHEALTH ANGIO-SCREEN EVENT
”In community health… AdventHealth Gordon is bringing critical vascular screenings directly to Fairmount next week.
On Tuesday, June second, they will host an Angio-Screen event at the Fairmount E-M-S Station from 8:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. This quick, ten-minute, non-invasive check costs 85 dollars and provides immediate results to help identify risks for heart disease and stroke before symptoms ever show up. It includes an ultrasound of your carotid artery, an E-K-G, and an abdominal aortic aneurysm check.
Slots fill up fast and appointments are strictly required, so call 706-290-8008 to claim yours. H-S-A and flexible spending cards are accepted.”
WINGS & WHEELS RESCHEDULED
”If you had plans to take the family to the airport this weekend, you’ll need to hit the pause button. The annual Wings and Wheels Day at the Tom B. David Airport has been rescheduled due to the persistent rainfall expected to linger through early next week.
The event is shifting back exactly one week to Saturday, June sixth, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Mark your calendars for next weekend to catch the big lineup of vintage aircraft, classic cruise-in cars, and local food trucks.”
CHATTANOOGA AREA FOOD BANK DISTRIBUTION
”And finally, a reminder for families looking to help stretch the household budget. The Chattanooga Area Food Bank is partnering with Heritage Baptist Church here in Calhoun for a massive drive-thru food distribution this coming Saturday, May 30th.
Free groceries will be loaded directly into your vehicle for eligible Georgia residents on a first-come, first-served basis. No reservations are needed. The drive-thru lineup starts at 8:45 a.m., and the boxes will be handed out from 9:00 until 11:00 Saturday morning while supplies last.”
