The Gordon County Sheriff’s Office is mourning the loss of Deputy Sheriff Kevin Summerville, who passed away following what Sheriff Mitch Ralston described as a long and courageous battle with cancer.
In a statement released Tuesday, the sheriff’s office said Summerville had served the agency as both a jailer and deputy sheriff since May 2021. During his time with the department, he earned the respect of fellow deputies and staff for his dedication to the profession and his willingness to mentor younger officers.
Sheriff Mitch Ralston remembered Summerville as an outstanding law enforcement officer and valued member of the agency.
“We are all going to miss Kevin,” Ralston said. “He was recently recognized by the Elks Lodge as Outstanding Law Enforcement Officer of the Year 2025 in April. He was an excellent employee, a capable peace officer who mentored younger colleagues, and he was a fine individual who was popular among the staff. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends.”
Deputy Summerville’s recognition as the Elks Lodge Outstanding Law Enforcement Officer of the Year highlighted his commitment to serving the Gordon County community and his fellow officers.
To honor his service and memory, Sheriff Ralston has ordered the flags at the Gordon County Sheriff’s Office to be flown at half-staff.
