The Gordon County Board of Commissioners unanimously approved a conditional use permit Tuesday night, allowing the construction of eight new poultry houses at an existing farming operation in the Ranger area.
The approval came during the board’s July 21 meeting following a public hearing on the request for the property, located on more than 156 acres at Oakman Road and Taylortown Road.
The application had previously been reviewed by the Gordon County Planning Commission, which recommended approval before forwarding it to the Board of Commissioners for final consideration.
According to information presented during the meeting, the project includes the construction of eight poultry houses measuring approximately 55 feet by 600 feet each. The new houses will be built adjacent to poultry houses already operating on the property, making the expansion consistent with the surrounding agricultural uses in the area.
Commissioners were also told that the property owner’s daughter, who has worked on the existing farm for more than 20 years, will oversee the operation of the new poultry houses.
No members of the public spoke during the public hearing, and the Board of Commissioners voted 5-0 to approve the conditional use permit.
The approval allows the existing poultry operation to expand with the addition of the eight new houses on the Ranger property.
