Calhoun City Council Meeting Today
The Calhoun City Council holds a noon work session today at 700 West Line Street, followed by the regular meeting at 7:00 p.m. in the Depot Community Room on South King Street. The agenda features public hearings for alcohol license requests from Gi Gi’s Grille and Marathon Food Mart. Officials will also hold second readings for large residential annexations along Liberty Road and Newtown Road NE, alongside a special event permit for Heavale Brewing Company’s Oktoberfest that requires closing Oothcalooga Street.
Weekend Earthquake Rattles Resaca
A magnitude 2.4 earthquake struck Resaca early Saturday morning at a depth of 5.6 miles. Local emergency management reported no damage, which is typical for the ancient, deep faults of the Eastern Tennessee Seismic Zone. Because the bedrock in our region is dense, seismic waves travel greater distances, allowing these frequent, minor quakes to be felt widely even though the overall risk of severe damage remains low.

Cattlemen Push Back Against Import Tariff Waiver

Leaders are urging lawmakers to support domestic producers by addressing fuel, fertilizer, and processing bottlenecks instead of flooding the market with discounted foreign beef.
