Gordon County Fire Rescue responded to two residential structure fires within hours of each other Wednesday night and Thursday morning, leaving two families displaced.
The first fire was reported at approximately 10:30 p.m. Wednesday, September 16, at a home on Hall Memorial Road.
According to Gordon County Fire Rescue, crews arrived to find smoke coming from the residence. Firefighters located the source of the fire and quickly extinguished it.
Officials determined the fire originated in a clothes dryer. The home sustained moderate smoke damage.
One person suffered a minor injury and was treated at the scene by AdventHealth EMS before being released.
Firefighters were called to a second residential fire at approximately 6 a.m. Thursday, September 17, on County Line Road SW in the Plainville community.
When crews arrived, they found flames venting from the structure. Firefighters quickly attacked the blaze and were able to extinguish it before it could spread further.
No injuries were reported in the County Line Road fire, but the residence sustained significant damage. The cause has not yet been determined and remains under investigation.
The American Red Cross is assisting both families with temporary placement and other immediate needs following the fires.
