Georgia drivers continue to face higher prices at the pump, with the statewide average for regular gasoline now at $4.19 per gallon.
According to AAA – The Auto Club Group, Georgia’s average is up 10 cents from last week, 39 cents from a month ago and $1.31 compared to this time last year.
At the current statewide average, filling a standard 15-gallon tank with regular gasoline costs approximately $62.85.
“Gas prices remain a challenge for Georgia families, especially for those who depend on their vehicles for work, school, and daily activities,” said Montrae Waiters, spokeswoman for AAA – The Auto Club Group. “With the state average still above $4 per gallon, many drivers are looking for ways to make every tank go further.”
While prices remain elevated, Georgia’s average is still below the state’s record high of $4.49 per gallon, which was reached in June 2022.
Nationally, the average price for regular gasoline stands at $4.47 per gallon. Typically, motorists see some relief as the fall season begins, but AAA says volatility surrounding the Strait of Hormuz and high crude oil prices are continuing to put pressure on prices at the pump.
Prices vary across Georgia. Athens is among the state’s most expensive metro markets at $4.24 per gallon, followed by Atlanta at $4.23 and Gainesville at $4.22.
The least expensive markets include Albany at $4.07, Valdosta at $4.08 and the Catoosa-Dade-Walker area at $4.09 per gallon.
AAA recommends drivers shop around for lower gasoline prices, combine errands when possible, properly maintain their vehicles and avoid aggressive driving to help improve fuel economy and stretch each tank further.
