The Atlanta Braves begin their chase for a World Series championship Tuesday afternoon when the Philadelphia Phillies come to Truist Park for Game 1 of the National League Wild Card Series.
Atlanta enters the postseason with a 94-68 record after winning the NL East, while Philadelphia finished 88-74 and punched its ticket to the playoffs on the final day of the regular season. First pitch Tuesday is scheduled for 2 p.m.
The matchup brings plenty of recent postseason history. The Phillies eliminated the Braves in the NLDS in both 2022 and 2023. This season, however, Atlanta controlled the head-to-head matchup, taking nine of 13 games from Philadelphia.
Chris Sale will take the ball for the Braves in the series opener. Sale went 14-9 with a 2.16 ERA during the regular season and recorded a 2.08 ERA across four starts against the Phillies. Philadelphia will start Jesús Luzardo.
Game 1 carries added importance in the short best-of-three Wild Card format, with one team leaving Tuesday’s contest just one win away from advancing.
