Georgia Gas Prices Continue to Fall, but Rising Oil Costs Could Slow Relief at the Pump

Gas prices across Georgia continue to decline, providing some relief for motorists, but AAA warns that rising crude oil prices could slow further decreases at the pump.

According to AAA – The Auto Club Group, Georgia’s average price for regular unleaded gasoline currently stands at $3.73 per gallon, down 8 cents from last week and 36 cents from a month ago. However, drivers are still paying 91 cents more per gallon than they were at this time last year.

For motorists filling up a standard 15-gallon tank, the average cost is approximately $55.95.

While prices have been trending downward, crude oil climbed sharply last Friday amid concerns about potential disruptions to global supplies. AAA says continued volatility in the oil market could put renewed pressure on gasoline prices.

“Crude oil prices and potential supply disruptions remain factors to watch for drivers,” said Montrae Waiters, spokeswoman for AAA – The Auto Club Group. “While market conditions remain uncertain, drivers can help manage fuel costs by shopping around for the best prices, taking advantage of fuel rewards programs, and planning trips efficiently.”

Nationally, the average price for regular gasoline has dropped 6 cents over the past week to $4.29 per gallon. Despite the decline, elevated crude oil prices continue to limit the seasonal decrease in fuel costs typically seen during the fall.

Across Georgia, the most expensive metro markets include Savannah at $3.83 per gallon, Hinesville-Fort Stewart at $3.78, and Atlanta at $3.75.

The least expensive metro markets are Albany at $3.57, the Catoosa-Dade-Walker area at $3.61, and Brunswick at $3.64.

AAA encourages drivers to shop around for the lowest gasoline prices, consider fuel rewards programs, and combine errands to reduce unnecessary driving.

Motorists can also improve fuel economy by maintaining their vehicles, avoiding aggressive acceleration, and reducing highway speeds when possible.

Although Georgia drivers are seeing some relief at the pump, AAA cautions that uncertainty in the global oil market could affect gasoline prices in the coming weeks.
