Emergency Response Gordon County Fire Rescue responded to a residential structure fire in the 2500 block of Highway 41 in Resaca around 9:00 p.m. last night. Crews arrived to find smoke and flames, quickly initiating search and suppression efforts to bring the blaze under control. According to Chief Heath Derryberry, the home is considered a total loss, but thankfully, no injuries were reported. The preliminary cause appears to be electrical in nature, and the American Red Cross is currently assisting the residents with temporary placement and essential needs.

Economy & Markets On the national economic front, headline U.S. consumer inflation accelerated to 3.7% for September 2026, fueled by geopolitical energy shocks and resilient consumer demand. Broadening price pressures saw fuel oil spike 74% due to the war in Iran, gasoline climb 34% annually, and software costs jump 28%. Combined with a strong 3.2% projected GDP growth rate for the third quarter, sticky core inflation at 2.6% is keeping the pressure on the Federal Reserve. A recent Reuters survey reveals economists unanimously project a 25-basis-point rate hike on December 9 to prevent price pressures from permanently entrenching across the broader economy.
