AdventHealth Gordon is taking a proactive step to support new mothers with the launch of its Post-Birth Alert Bracelet Initiative, designed to provide specialized care during the critical weeks after childbirth.
Every mother leaving the hospital will now receive a postpartum alert bracelet to wear for the first six weeks following delivery—the period when women are most at risk for complications such as hypertensive crises, severe bleeding, infections, or other obstetric-related concerns.
“Our care doesn’t stop when a patient delivers — mom is still a priority,” said Lauren Everett, director of nursing at The Baby Place at AdventHealth Gordon. “The bracelet lets emergency personnel or clinicians immediately know that a woman has recently given birth and may need specialized OB care. This initiative has been needed for a long time and is already making a meaningful difference for our mothers.”
The bracelets have already proven effective in real-world situations. Mothers wearing them have been quickly identified by EMS, emergency departments, and community medical responders, allowing for timely and appropriate care. Everett shared, “We’ve seen several patients arrive in our OB Emergency Department still wearing their bracelets. EMS has been able to transport postpartum patients directly to OB when needed. Moms are even wearing them in the community — at baby showers, football games — and it’s definitely working.”
To support the initiative, AdventHealth Gordon has expanded OB Emergency Department services to address postpartum concerns such as heavy or abnormal bleeding, C-section wound complications, mastitis, postpartum fever, and elevated blood pressure related to preeclampsia. All postpartum patients presenting within six weeks of delivery are now routed to OB-trained clinicians for faster, tailored care.
Through this program, AdventHealth Gordon underscores its commitment to protecting and supporting mothers beyond the delivery room, ensuring both mom and baby receive the attention they need during the crucial postpartum period.
