AdventHealth has welcomed a new sports medicine physician to its Calhoun team, expanding orthopedic care for patients across Northwest Georgia.
Benjamin Shin, DO, joined AdventHealth Medical Group Orthopedics and Sports Medicine at Calhoun on Aug. 24. Shin is a board-certified sports medicine physician who provides care for children, adolescents, adults and older adults with a variety of musculoskeletal injuries and conditions.
Shin focuses on individualized treatment designed to relieve pain, restore function and help patients remain active. He works with patients to develop treatment plans and, when possible, uses non-operative approaches to help them recover and avoid surgery.
He earned his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine at Seton Hill in Greensburg, Pennsylvania. He later completed a family medicine residency at the Texas Institute for Graduate Medical Education and Research in San Antonio, followed by a sports medicine fellowship at Northside Sports Medicine in Atlanta.
Shin also works closely with orthopedic surgeons to coordinate care for patients who require surgical treatment.
AdventHealth Medical Group Orthopedics and Sports Medicine at Calhoun treats a variety of conditions, including sports-related injuries, arthritis, fractures, sprains and strains, carpal tunnel syndrome, scoliosis and congenital musculoskeletal abnormalities. Services include joint injections, athletic training and other non-operative orthopedic care.
Fluent in both English and Korean, Shin said his approach centers on listening to patients and working with them and other medical professionals to achieve the best possible outcomes.
AdventHealth said Shin’s addition will help expand access to personalized orthopedic and sports medicine care for residents in Calhoun and throughout Northwest Georgia.
