The Atlanta Journal-Constitution announced Thursday that it will cease production of its print newspaper at the end of 2025, ending a 157-year tradition and moving fully into the digital era.

The paper’s final print edition will be published on December 31. Beginning January 1, 2026, the AJC will operate solely as a digital news outlet.

AJC President and Publisher Andrew Morse said the decision reflects both the challenges of the print industry and the paper’s commitment to investing in high-quality journalism for the future.

“After 157 years, we did not make this decision lightly; for many of us, reading the paper with our morning coffee is as ingrained in our routine as brushing our teeth or scrambling eggs,” Morse wrote in a statement. “Embracing our digital future means we can focus every resource and every ounce of energy on producing world-class journalism and delivering it to each of you in the most impactful way.”

Morse emphasized that the shift will not change the organization’s mission. “Our unwavering commitment to essential, factual reporting remains,” he said, adding that the AJC will continue to prioritize distinctive journalism, well-sourced beat reporting, and compelling storytelling.

Founded in 1868, the AJC has been Atlanta’s flagship daily newspaper and a key news source for Georgia and the South.
