Calhoun Animal Control at Full Capacity, Urges Community to Adopt

Calhoun Animal Control officials say the shelter has reached full capacity and is currently unable to take in any additional dogs until space becomes available.

According to Animal Control, every kennel at the facility is filled, creating a difficult situation for staff and the animals already in their care. Officials are asking the community to help relieve the overcrowding by adopting dogs or sharing information about animals that are available for adoption.

Shelter staff say that every adoption helps create space for another dog that may urgently need care.

Without support from the community, officials warn they may be forced to consider options they would prefer to avoid in order to manage the overcrowding.

Calhoun Animal Control is encouraging anyone who has been considering adopting a pet to do so now, noting that community support is critical to helping the animals currently housed at the facility.

Those interested in adopting a dog are asked to contact Calhoun Animal Control. Residents who are unable to adopt can still help by sharing the shelter’s posts on social media to help the dogs find homes.
