The Calhoun City Council has appointed veteran law enforcement officer Steve Kish as the city’s new Chief of Police.
Kish was appointed during Monday night’s meeting of the Calhoun City Council, bringing more than 30 years of law enforcement experience to the Calhoun Police Department.
Kish’s career began as a patrol officer in the metro Atlanta area and eventually led to senior leadership positions, including Assistant Chief. His experience includes community policing, department operations, officer development, investigations and special operations.
Kish spent nearly three decades with the Marietta Police Department, where he helped lead initiatives aimed at improving departmental operations, strengthening relationships with the community and enhancing officer development. His work included helping implement a department-wide community policing model and developing and supervising a tactical team.
He later served as Captain of Operations with the Acworth Police Department, overseeing patrol, investigations and special operations. During his time in Acworth, Kish also launched a Public Safety Liaison program and authored a successful $850,000 Violent Crime Reduction Grant.
Most recently, Kish served as Assistant Chief of the Dallas Police Department in Georgia. In that position, he provided leadership across administration, patrol, investigations, dispatch and special operations. His responsibilities also included internal affairs oversight, grant acquisition and policy development.
Kish is also a graduate of the FBI National Academy and a U.S. Army veteran.
His appointment places a law enforcement veteran with more than three decades of experience at the helm of the Calhoun Police Department.
