CALHOUN, GA – As Calhoun City Schools prepares for the upcoming 2025–2026 academic year, officials have announced changes to arrival and dismissal procedures for Calhoun Primary and Calhoun Elementary Schools aimed at enhancing student safety and improving traffic flow.
Beginning in August 2025, the two schools will operate with separate car rider lines, a change designed to reduce congestion and allow for safer, more efficient drop-off and pick-up routines.
To support the new plan, Calhoun Primary School (CPS) will adjust its schedule:
Start Time: 7:30 AM (aligned with Calhoun Early Learning Academy)
Drop-Off Begins: 7:00 AM
Dismissal Time: 2:10 PM
Traffic Pattern: All CPS car riders will enter from Linda Lane and exit onto Curtis Parkway, both in the morning and afternoon. This route provides buses with exclusive access to the rear parking lot, enhancing safety for student loading and unloading.
Calhoun Elementary School (CES) will maintain its current schedule:
Start Time: 8:05 AM
Drop-Off Begins: 7:30 AM
Dismissal Time: 2:45 PM
Traffic Pattern: CES car riders will enter from Curtis Parkway and may exit via Curtis Parkway or Linda Lane after bus departures.
Families with children attending both CPS and CES will follow a combined procedure:
Morning: Drop off both students with CPS.
Afternoon: Pick up both students with CES.
Supervised holding areas will be provided to ensure student safety during the wait.
According to school officials, the new plan ensures safer and more spacious bus routes while freeing the rear parking lot for exclusive bus use, minimizing vehicle conflicts and creating a safer experience for students, drivers, and staff alike.
“All other schools in the district will maintain their current drop-off and pick-up times for the 2025–2026 school year,” officials added.
Parents are encouraged to review the visual guide of the updated traffic patterns and begin adjusting their routines ahead of the new school year. The district acknowledges that the changes may impact family schedules and is providing information in advance to allow time for planning.
