She is well known within the Calhoun City Schools system, having previously served on the School Governance Team (SGT) at Calhoun Early Learning Academy and most recently as co-chair of the Calhoun Elementary School SGT.

“As a current CES SGT co-chair and former CELA SGT parent representative, healthcare leader, and longtime Calhoun resident, I am passionate about advancing educational excellence in our school system,” Layson said. “I see the importance of having representatives with various backgrounds and opinions to help shape the direction of the most important asset in our community—our education system for our youth.”

In addition to her service within the school system, Dr. Layson is a graduate of the Gordon County Chamber of Commerce’s Leadership Calhoun–Gordon County program and has served on the boards of the Voluntary Action Center and the Gordon County United Way.

Professionally, Dr. Layson is a healthcare leader. She is an active member of both the American Pharmacists Association and the Georgia Pharmacy Association and currently serves as a Clinical Account Manager for Capital Rx, a pharmacy benefit management company.

Dr. Layson and her husband, Toby, are parents of three children who attend Calhoun City Schools, giving her a personal perspective on the district’s work and priorities.

“I am committed to upholding board values through thoughtful collaboration, transparency, and a student-centered approach to decision-making,” Layson said. “My leadership skills, combined with my respect for educators, parents, and students, motivate me to help create policies that promote opportunity, achievement, and inclusion for all learners.”

Board Chair Becky Gilbert-George expressed confidence in the appointment, stating that Dr. Layson’s experience and dedication will be a valuable asset to the district.

“The Calhoun City Schools Board of Education is confident that Dr. Layson’s expertise and passion for the community will help guide the continued success of our students,” Gilbert-George said.
