On Friday afternoon, Nov. 14, 2025, Calhoun Fire Department responded to a chemical spill on Gee Road that prompted a coordinated cleanup effort involving multiple agencies.

According to Tim Duvall, Chief of Fire Prevention, a local plant was in the process of washing out totes containing an alcohol-based product into the sewer system. Some of the chemical escaped into a nearby creek. While the substance is not known to be harmful to humans, it can be toxic to aquatic life.

Calhoun Fire officials quickly secured the scene and called in Marion Environmental to handle the cleanup. Because the chemical reached property located outside the city limits, Gordon County Fire & Rescue, Gordon County Code Enforcement, and Calhoun Utilities also responded. The Gordon County Sheriff’s Office assisted by deploying a drone to monitor how far the spill had traveled.

Authorities reported that the spill was contained to a relatively small area. Marion Environmental returned to the site Saturday morning to observe and ensure the area remained safe.

Officials said no injuries were reported and that cleanup operations are ongoing.
