From August 13 through September 1, 2025, the Calhoun Police Department will join the Georgia Governor’s Office of Highway Safety in the national “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” mobilization to crack down on alcohol- and drug-impaired drivers.

This annual enforcement effort aims to save lives by reducing the number of crashes, injuries, and fatalities caused by impaired driving. Across the nation, drunk and drugged driving continues to claim thousands of lives each year—tragedies law enforcement says are entirely preventable.

“As a community, we should no longer tolerate anyone being injured or killed because people choose to drive under the influence,” the department stated. “It will take all of us working together to stop these needless tragedies.”

Calhoun Police Chief Tony Pyle urged residents to take an active role in preventing impaired driving.

“The Calhoun Police Department will do our part,” Chief Pyle said. “The public can support us by speaking up to friends, relatives, and neighbors if they are driving under the influence. If reminding them about the deadly risks doesn’t work, tell them that if they’re spotted during one of our systematic sobriety checkpoints, they will be arrested and prosecuted.”

The Georgia Governor’s Office of Highway Safety is partnering with more than 350 law enforcement agencies statewide during this campaign. Officers will increase patrols, conduct checkpoints, and focus on identifying impaired drivers to help make Georgia’s roadways safer.

Officials emphasize that changing behaviors around impaired driving requires community involvement. By spreading the word, refusing to ride with impaired drivers, and intervening when someone is at risk, residents can help reduce the number of crashes, injuries, and deaths on local roads.
